SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- INS, a leading provider of business and technology consulting services and software solutions, announced today the release of IPControl(TM) software version 2.2. This newest version of the award-winning IPControl software provides numerous enhancements to enable customers to simplify and streamline complex IP address management (IPAM) functions, exemplified by the unique ExtenSimple(TM) capability.

The IPControl system, available as software or secure appliance platforms, provides centralized management of customers' IPv4 and IPv6 address space, as well as creation and deployment of multivendor DHCP and DNS configurations. IPControl provides holistic IPAM with support for customers' existing DHCP and DNS infrastructure, including support for Internet Systems Consortium (ISC DHCP, BIND 8 or 9 DNS), Microsoft, and INS, including IPControl Sapphire DHCP/DNS appliances.

The newest features of IPControl version 2.2 help customers address the following challenges:

  • IPAM functionality needs to adapt to each organization's unique IP environment. The ExtenSimple(TM) capability enables customers to not only define topology, address spaces, device types, and associated attributes, but to fully manage these elements and attributes within the system. This allows them to easily extend the functionality of IPControl to optimally conform to their IP network policies and procedures.

  • Deploying complex DNS configurations across multiple servers can require hours of staff time to validate accuracy and troubleshoot erroneous configurations. IPControl version 2.2 expands DNS validation and verification features to further reduce the probability of configuration errors during deployment. These expanded features enable validation of configuration information prior to deployment to a server. Enhancements to the graphical user interface further minimize entry errors.

  • Most organizations need to delegate to multiple administrators portions of IPAM responsibility across multiple dimensions. The extensive administrator controls in IPControl have been expanded in version 2.2 to provide additional granularity of access controls.

  • Monitoring of remotely deployed DHCP and DNS services often requires an additional monitoring system with additional cost. The IPControl version 2.2 appliance dashboard provides further detailed information for effective centralized monitoring and management of distributed appliances. DHCP/DNS appliances vastly simplify deployments, management, and upgrades.

  • Migration from existing DHCP and DNS systems can be disruptive if a forklift replacement is required. While IPControl manages market-leading DHCP and DNS products natively without requiring forklift migrations, additional migration utilities in version 2.2 simplify the process during an extended migration period.

  • Integration of IPAM functionality with external systems can be cumbersome if not impossible. Expanded command line interfaces and APIs provide additional integration points for closer-knit integration of IPControl functions within the broader IP network management environment.

Limited functionality or difficult user interfaces impede effective IPAM within an organization. Management enhancements include additional search and results processing features, as well as naming policy additions, and more, further simplify system processes. "IPControl version 2.2 puts customers another step closer to easily and fully integrating IP address management functions into their existing systems infrastructure," stated Michael Dooley, INS VP of Software Solutions. "This integration is becoming ever more critical as additional IP-based services, such as voice over IP, are deployed within enterprise and service provider networks. Deployment of these services vastly increases the complexity of managing IP address space and associated DHCP and DNS server configurations. IPControl helps simplify overall IP address management processes while providing a holistic perspective."
