Cox Calls for More Mobile Aid

11:30 AM -- Cox Communications Inc. still isn't saying much about the features, handsets, and pricing that will grace its ambitious 3G-evolving-to-4G wireless service, but the company's vendor dealmakers are certainly demonstrating that they're keeping quite busy, thank you very much. Following recent deals with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and BCI Communications Inc. (OTC: BERL), Cox revealed this week that Bridgewater Systems Corp. (Toronto: BWC) has joined the MSO's wireless ecosystem. (See Cox, Huawei Make Wireless Connection , BCI Gets Busy With Cox's 3G Buildout , and Bridgewater Joins Cox Wireless Ecosystem .)

Bridgewater will supply its Service Controller and Subscriber Data Broker products, which will be used to authorize and authenticate Cox's wireless subscribers, and do so in rapid fashion.

There's an apps angle, too. Cox intends to provide broker subscriber data to third-party applications, "making it easy to create and personalize services on line and in real time." Bridgewater highlights mobile advertising as one of the third-party apps it can support.

Some other customers on Bridgewater's roster are Verizon Wireless , Clearwire LLC (Nasdaq: CLWR), Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S), and Telstra Corp. Ltd. (ASX: TLS; NZK: TLS).
