SYDNEY and CHENNAI, India -- Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India’s largest communications service provider, has awarded HCL, one of India's leading IT and technology services and Clarity, the telecommunication industry’s Operational Support System (OSS) business process automation company, a major contract to provide a highly scaleable OSS solution in the form of Inventory Management, Provisioning and Fault Management for support of all voice services. HCL’s contract applies to the Southern and Eastern zones of India, representing support for a subscriber base of 20 million.

Working with Clarity, HCL will deliver a tightly integrated provisioning, inventory and fault management solution, allowing BSNL to build unparalleled services levels to its customer base. The majority of subscribers will benefit immediately from the new platform, and this innovative approach to OSS supports BSNL’s movement towards aligning their business model on customer line, rather than individual product and service offerings. Using Clarity’s products and consultancy, HCL will deliver a highly scalable solution, designed to rationalise the number of IT platforms, consequently lowering infrastructure and capital expenses, as well as reducing time to market.

“Scalability is a crucial factor in the rapidly developing Indian communications market, said APS Bedi, Vice President, HCL Infosystems. “Clarity’s proven expertise is already reflected in their support for operators with 20 and 30 million customers; their consultancy services have perfectly complimented our work to deploy next generation OSS systems for BSNL. Working with Clarity has allowed us to jointly transform the BSNL infrastructure to support their rapidly expanding operations.”
