BERLIN -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced the latest product addition to its broadband access portfolio, the Alcatel-Lucent 5520 Access Management System (AMS). This next-generation element management system covers the entire Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) product portfolio, encompassing DSL as well as fiber-based access networks. The Alcatel-Lucent 5520 AMS will be available for the ETSI market by the end of 2007, with later availability scheduled also for the ANSI market.
As operators roll out a mixture of different DSL and fiber technologies in their networks, it is of the highest importance to enable smooth operations. Having a single, integrated management platform for the entire network concretely answers this need.
The Alcatel-Lucent 5520 AMS provides all management requirements for provisioning, maintaining and troubleshooting access networks – and allows for a smooth integration into the service provider’s OSS environment. The state-of-the-art, Java-based management platform has a largely modular architecture, brings increased flexibility to support new network elements and helps achieve faster time-to-market for new services. Thanks to its best-in-class usability, the system considerably facilitates operations and reduces the need for service provider’s operational staff to learn multiple systems.
The Alcatel-Lucent 5520 AMS can be extended with a series of enhanced applications that consist of advanced OSS integration products based on XML/SOAP or other operational support tools, bringing increased automation and eliminating repetitive management operations. These enhanced applications help reduce both CAPEX and OPEX - and enable service providers to achieve more streamlined operations. The OSS integration products, combined with a number of ongoing projects with leading OSS vendors in the framework of Alcatel-Lucent’s “Connected Partner Program”, facilitate and accelerate the availability of end-to-end, flow-through management solutions.
"This new management solution delivers integrated management of DSL and PON-based access in a single product. This will provide greater operational efficiency for service providers as they roll out their access networks," said Peter Mottishaw, Senior Analyst at OSS Observer. "At the same time, the new modular Alcatel-Lucent platform provides improved usability and enhanced northbound interfaces with support for recent TeleManagement Forum standards. Service providers will benefit from its increased efficiency, flexibility and improved OSS integration."
