CAIRO, Egypt -- Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) (Ticker: ORTE.CA, ORTEq.L,ORAT EY, OTLD LI), announces its first half 2006 consolidated results.

Highlights

  • Total subscribers reached approximately 41 million, an increase of 93%over June 2005.

  • Proportionate subscribers exceeded 31 million, an increase of 112%over June 2005.

  • Revenues of US$ 2,060 million (LE 11,863 million1), an increase of 36%over June 2005.

  • EBITDA reached US$ 919 million (LE 5,312 million1), an increase of 41%over June 2005.

  • Group EBITDA margin stood at 44.6%, GSM EBITDA2 margin stood at49.8%. EBITDA margins of the major subsidiaries are: Djezzy 62.3%,Mobilink 38.6%, Mobinil 50.8%, Iraqna 49.1% and Tunisiana 47.3%.􀂃 Net income for the period reached US$ 331 million (LE 1,928 million1) anincrease of 12% over June 2005.

  • Earnings per Share reached US$ 1.52 vs. US$ 1.35 in June 2005.

  • Net debt stood at US$ 3,046 million (LE 17,591 million1) on 30 June 2006. Net Debt/EBITDA3 for the period is 1.88.



Operational Performance

During the first half of 2006, OTH continued to expand its subscriber base breaking the 40million subscriber mark to reach approximately 41 million subscribers, adding approximately20 million subscribers over the last twelve months, and adding 5.7 million subscribers overlast quarter a 16% increase quarter-on-quarter. Mobilink’s subscriber base reached 17 million,adding over 3 million subscribers in one quarter, and Banglalink’s subscriber base reached2.1 million.OTH has increased its proportionate subscribers to reach 31.6 million.

With the aggressive expansion in subscribers and continuing to reach lower incomesegments, ARPUs continued to decline, however, quarter on quarter, ARPUs rate of declinewas small with ARPUs increasing slightly in Djezzy & Tunisiana.
