Sprint inks multimillion-dollar contract with Oracle to provide advanced high-speed network connectivity solutions

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Sprint (NYSE: FON - News, PCS - News) today announced a multimillion-dollar communications agreement with Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL - News), the world's largest enterprise software company. Valued at about $9 million per year, the agreement will integrate Oracle's U.S. networking backbone into one consolidated infrastructure and enable Oracle's employees access to software and business applications online, utilizing Sprint's network. "The Sprint network will be the backbone that supports Oracle information technology (IT) architecture for Oracle employees to access self-services applications of the Oracle E-Business Suite," said Patricia Giuntoli, vice president of Global Network Planning and Engineering, Oracle Corp. In addition, the Sprint Tier-1 backbone will enable Oracle's sales force to demonstrate remote access to applications, helping prospective clients experience real-world use of the Oracle suite of products. As part of the agreement, Sprint will implement frame relay, ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) and dedicated Internet protocol (IP) services, delivering secure, reliable connections between Oracle's corporate headquarters in Redwood Shores, Calif., and offsite locations, including Oracle field offices and applications development centers. The agreement also includes private line data and voice, as well as enhanced toll-free services. "Sprint assumed an intricate role in enabling Oracle to continue to be at the forefront of innovation and continually challenge how business applications are used and distributed," said Kevin Kunkel, area vice president - West region, Sprint Business.
