Appoints Dr. Tim Brophy as vice president, optical engineering; promotes Dr. Gregg Johnson to vice president, hardware engineering

ELKRIDGE, Md. -- Optinel Systems, a privately-held provider of optical transport systems for the cable television industry, today announced the appointment of Tim Brophy as Vice President, Optical Engineering and the promotion of Gregg Johnson to Vice President, Hardware Engineering. "We are pleased to announce these key appointments that strengthen our management team," said Jim Faust, CEO. "Both Tim and Gregg have demonstrated significant achievements in the development and commercialization of CATV equipment and DWDM systems." Dr. Brophy brings more than 18 years experience in electrical and optical engineering to Optinel. He previously served as Director, Optics Engineering and Advanced Photonic Technology at Motorola's Broadband Communication Sector and Vice President, Product Development at Qusion Technologies. He has published more than 14 technical articles and presented papers at several academic conferences. Dr. Brophy holds Ph.D., MS and BSEE (with highest honors) degrees from Drexel University. Dr. Johnson has been with Optinel since the Company's founding in 2000. He has more than 7 years experience in electro-optic and fiber-optic subsystems. Prior to joining Optinel, Dr. Johnson specialized in high-sensitivity, high-precision fiber optic communications systems at the Naval Research Laboratory. He has published more than 60 technical articles, has presented papers at several international fiber optic technology conferences and has served as referee for multiple engineering and physics journals. He is co-inventor on more than 10 patents. Dr. Johnson earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Ohio University and his BS in Physics from Gustavus Adolphus College. Optinel Systems
