SHENZHEN, China -- ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced it had signed an agreement with Globacom, Nigeria’s second largest operator, to build the national backbone transmission network in Ghana across all major cities and the metro network in Accra, Ghana’s capital.

ZTE will supply its ZXMP S385 SDH-Based Multi-Service Node Equipment to build the network. As a 10G multi-service bearer platform, ZXMP S385 has robust service cross-connect scheduling capabilities, addressing Globacom’s current network needs and providing adaptability for future 3G network demands. With the capability to deliver rich data services, ZXMP S385 will enable the rollout of a wide variety of services including 2G, 3G and Ethernet over a unified platform, cutting Globacom’s total cost of ownership (TCO). ZXMP S385’s all-round equipment-/network-level protection mechanism will ensure high-quality transport of diversified services over the network.

Globacom delivers GSM and WCDMA mobile services to 22 million subscribers in Nigeria, and is in the process of building GSM networks in Ghana and Benin. The transmission network built by ZTE will solve network bottleneck issues in Ghana, and help Globacom boost its market competitiveness.

Globacom has set an aggressive timeline for the project and has set forth high requirements for project implementation quality. ZTE’s outstanding project implementation capabilities were a key determining factor in the selection of ZTE as a partner for the project.

“ZTE has shown its efficient engineering expertise during these early stages of project implementation, effectively communicating with us every step of the way,” said Krishnan, GLO CTO. “We are confident in ZTE’s ability to successfully complete the project with great service and quality product and workmanship, helping to improve network bandwidth and transport quality in Ghana.”
