Turn On Your Leading Light

NEW YORK -- Light Reading is now accepting entries for the fourth annual Leading Lights Awards, by which top public and private companies and their executives will be recognized for their outstanding achievements in the next-gen communications industry.

The Leading Lights Awards were launched in 2004, and more than 900 entries have been received since the program's inception. The awards categories and judging criteria have been carefully designed and refined in light of Light Reading's seven-plus years of experience analyzing telecommunications technology and services. The judges will take into account feedback from both leading financial analysts and service providers.

The Leading Lights Award winners will be announced at a special awards dinner on October 15 in New York City following the first day of our Ethernet Expo. To reserve your seat for, or sponsor a table at, that lovely affair, please contact our events department by sending a note to [email protected].

The awards will be judged by a panel of Light Reading editors and Heavy Reading analysts.

The Leading Lights program focuses on next-generation telecom technology and the business case for it. It also, for the first time, will honor our Person of the Year, a new award bestowed on the individual who had the most significant influence on the industry, as defined by our readers. (See Reader's Choice Rules for more details.)

The contest is completely free to enter. The Web pages and entry form are here. But don't drag your feet, because the deadline for Person of the Year nominations is August 10, and the deadline for all other award entries is September 28.

What to do? Entrants should fill out the Web form in its entirety. The form includes important details that will be used by the judges to evaluate the entries, so please be precise (and concise). Hardware and software vendors, components makers, and service providers of all sorts are encouraged to enter.

(For last year's winners, see LR Names 2006 Leading Lights.) Here are all the categories of awards:

  • Person of the Year: Awarded to the individual who, by his or her actions and influence, had an undeniable impact on the business and people in the next-gen communications industry during 2007.
