DENVER -- Sorrento Networks, a global provider of metro optical access solutions, is helping service providers meet exploding bandwidth demands with its new GigaMux 6440, a 40Gbps metro optical access product. The GigaMux 6440 provides an immediate reduction in transport costs and a four-fold increase in bandwidth capacity. Sorrento is bringing the GigaMux 6440 to market through an OEM partnership with StrataLight Communications, the market leader in commercial deployment of 40 Gbps optical transmission subsystems.

The GigaMux 6440 is a carrier-class solution designed to help service providers address the unprecedented growth in IP traffic, storage area networks (SANs) and data centers, as well as offer more high-bandwidth capabilities to their customers. The WDM solution can be added to 10Gbps architectures without causing disruption to existing networks or requiring additional fiber cables. The GigaMux 6440 provides full redundancy and can be retrofitted into existing 10 Gbps WDM optical channels to support multi-haul traffic.

“Service providers must find cost-effective ways to meet escalating bandwidth and capacity demands utilizing their existing infrastructures,” said Jim Nevelle, CEO, Sorrento Networks. “The GigaMux 6440 is a powerful WDM solution that raises the current industry standard in the metro space. In essence, it serves as the on-ramp for service providers to gain instant access to more bandwidth using their existing fiber networks.”
