BERLIN -- Small form factor modules for data communications demand high performance and very low power dissipation at an attractive cost point. This requires a very efficient module design as well as high data-rate and very low-power component solutions.

VERTILAS GmbH, a leading manufacturer of low power long-wavelength VCSEL components, is now sampling a new LC receptacle for 1310 nm that achieves data rates of up to 10 Gbps. This Transmit Optical Sub-Assembly (TOSA) is based on the company’s unique Buried Tunnel Junction (BTJ) VCSEL technology and features an integrated monitoring diode. The typical TOSA power dissipation is as low as 30 mW.

Christian Neumeyr, CEO of VERTILAS, comments: “Our company has made a major step in developing a 1310 nm VCSEL TOSA for small form factor optical modules. In the last few years we have launched a range of VCSEL products from 1550 nm to 2050 nm, mostly for high-performance spectroscopy applications. It was now the right time to take our VCSEL technology one step further and develop a 1310 nm VCSEL for communications applications. By designing a complete TOSA with LC receptacle and integrated monitoring diode, we offer a solution that allows our customers to design modules with 10 Gbps performance and significantly reduce power dissipation.”
