LOS ANGELES -- Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., aleading global provider of advanced optical solutions, announced todaythat it is expanding its optical device portfolio with the introduction ofa 25G EML TOSA and 25G PIN ROSA for 100G Base-LR4 CFP modules. These devices are IEEE 802.3ba compliant for 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE). The 100 GbE performance is based on transmitting and receiving fourdifferent wavelengths, each at 25 Gb/s. The new EML TOSA integrates anexternally modulated DFB laser, optical isolator, photodiode formonitoring, thermistor and thermoelectric cooler, and is available inIEEE-compliant wavelengths. The TOSA includes a built-in modulator driverand offers output levels up to 4 dBm.

The ROSA includes a high speed PIN photodiode and transimpedanceamplifier, and realizes the wide dynamic range of -13 to +4 dBm.Network equipment manufacturers spent the past years working to develop100 GbE offerings. The first generation of 100 GbE product is shippingtoday.
