What a difference seven or eight years makes. The 2010 OFC/NFOEC, held last week in San Diego, had the most upbeat vibe since the bubble days.
That doesn't mean everything's fixed. In fact, the questions about profit margins and an oversupply of components companies are still around and are only marginally closer to being answered. (See OFC/NFOEC: Mergers Haven't Gone Far Enough.)
But with 100-Gbit/s networking on the rise and a telecom economy that seems to be recovering, the optical world had plenty to be excited about. We've got 12 snapshots that capture the mood.
