JDSU: Positive Numbers

6:10 PM -- JDSU shares are up 20 percent after hours (at $12.11) after the company blew past estimates.

Non-GAAP net income hit 22 cents per share, compared with the 12 cents consensus reported by Thomson First Call . Operating margins for the optical-communications division were 7.6 percent -- the first positive number in a year, CEO Kevin Kennedy said on today's conference call.

For anyone in optical, that's good stuff.

It's tempting to say things may finally be looking up for optics, as we head into OFC/NFOEC. But things are "looking up" every year, until you start considering the same lingering factors that hold the industry back. I wonder if I'll end up writing the same story I did last year.
