ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Ignis Photonyx, Technology Leader in IntegratedOptical Components, presented and demonstrated its WDM-PON product at OFC, theOptical Fiber Conference in Anaheim.Ignis’ WDM-PON products are based on leading-edge Planar Lightwave Circuit technology, adapted to the harsh environmental conditions of the outside fiber plant. Ignis especiallyadapted 32-channel Athermal AWG (Arrayed Waveguide Grating) constitutes the keycomponent in a passive WDM-PON remote node.

WDM-PON is PON on SteroidsWavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM-PON) is an evolution of standard PON. End usersare provisioned with individual channels (wavelengths) over a passive optical network, making it possible to customize individual service offerings. The result is a virtual Point-to-Point network based on wavelengths implemented over a shared PON fiber infrastructure, agnostic to transmission protocol, and with no inherent bandwidth limitations.

Ignis contributes in the forefront of WDM-PON technology with optical modules streamlinedto the conditions of the outside plant. The passive splitter used is a 32 channel AWG, anoptical component inherited from the Metro. The module shows exceptional wavelengthstability, and can handle an operational temperature of -40 to +80. Other specific features areits durability to immersion and its cyclicity in C- and E/S-band.
