PALO ALTO, Calif. -- GigOptix, a leading semiconductor manufacturer of high-precision PMDs for optically connected systems and Covega (Active Products Division of Gemfire Corporation), a leading manufacturer of optical modulators, today announced that they have verified the excellent interoperability of Covega’s model 10063 Lithium Niobate modulator with GigOptix’s iT6155 high performance LN modulator driver for 10G applications. Combined, they successfully achieved extension ratios of greater than 13dB for data rates of 12.5 Gb/s with a jitter of less than 3ps.

“We are very happy with the performance of GigOptix’s iT6155 with our high performance modulator,” said Jeff Morgan, Covega’s senior director of product management. “The demonstration which is very important to our customers was straightforward to do, given the deep technical knowledge within both our companies. The MACH-10TM 063 modulator performs superbly with the iT6155 driven by a 500mVpp input and allows more than adequate headroom to provide extension ratios of greater than 13dB with jitter less than 3ps and a signal to noise ratio greater than 22.”
