RICHMOND, Calif. -- DiCon Fiberoptics, Inc. will exhibit its family of dynamically reconfigurable MEMS products at ECOC 2007, taking place from Sep 17th to 19th in Berlin, Germany. Based on DiCon’s proprietary MEMS mirror platform, the product list will include our MEMS Tunable Filter, MEMS OCPM, MEMS ROADM, MEMS 1xN switch, and MEMS VOA. These latest additions to DiCon’s growing family of Reconfigurable Network Elements are designed to help OEMs and Network Operators more easily manage their networks at the wavelength level.

Tunable Filter

DiCon’s MEMS Tunable Filter, the latest product in our MEMS family, is designed with high reliability and cost in mind. This compact component (the optical core is only 35 mm x 25 mm x 8.5 mm) has excellent optical performances with sub 30 ms tuning speed, wavelength setting error < +/- 30 pm, and tuning resolution of 10 pm. Both 50 GHz and 100 GHz models are available and applications include broadcast and select type ROADM and noise suppression in 40 G systems.

Optical Channel Performance Monitor

Taking advantage of the MEMS durability, DiCon’s MEMS Optical Channel Performance Monitor (OCPM) integrates a MEMS Tunable Filter and a MEMS 1xN switch into a solution that continuously scans the performance of all channels in the network. This innovated device offers ample opportunity for system-level cost reduction. The MEMS Filter is a much more cost effective approach than the traditional detector arrays and the MEMS 1xN switch shares the monitoring requirement at different locations therefore eliminating the need for multiple OCPM’s at each node. With different tunable filter shapes available, various models can be supplied to meet different system requirements, from wide passband filters for accurate power reading in the 40 G systems to narrow passband filters for better OSNR analysis.

ROADM

Rounding out the new product list is the MEMS ROADM. This highly integrated device combines DiCon’s MEMS and thin film technologies and performs the functions of multiple devices at the form factor and cost of one. Multiple models are available. The most complex type has 6 ports and is equivalent to 2 thin film filters and one 2x2 switch. This channelized MEMS ROADM product meets the needs at metro/access nodes where cost is a priority and compact form factor and good performance are also essential.
