SUGAR LAND, Texas -- Applied Optoelectronics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of laser diodes, photodetectors, and optical modules for fiber optic communication systems, is pleased to announce the commercial availability of 1310-nm lasers with enhanced industrial-grade temperature ratings. The TO-56 package features high output power and an aluminum-free active region for better reliability. The optimized chip design has enabled full-power operation with a temperature range from -40 °C to +95 °C. Previous versions of this device from AOI and other suppliers were limited to -20 to +85 °C operation.Providing for the developing Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) market, AOI has been delivering sample shipments of the extended temperature range 1310-nm DFB laser diodes to customers since October 2005. Currently, the production capacity is 10,000 per month. AOI is also providing 1490-nm and 1550-nm DFB lasers for FTTH applications. As with all AOI’s laser devices, the new devices meet the rigid environmental requirements imposed by the European Restriction on Hazardous Substances (ROHS) regulations.AOI is a vertically integrated manufacturer with epitaxial growth, wafer processing, and optical module packaging at its headquarters near Houston, TX.
