LONDON -- Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today unveiled its enhanced optical transport network (OTN) solution, the OSN 8800, at the ongoing WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking 2009. The OSN 8800 offers a record cross-connect capacity of 2.56 T, with the potential of a further upgrade to 5.12 T, enabling operators to achieve greater flexibility and optimised wavelength utilisation to meet increasing bandwidth requirements.

With full-service capability, including VC-x (Virtual Container), ODUk (Optical Data Unit), future-oriented packet services and cross-connection, the enhanced OSN 8800 is designed to free backbone networks and provide effective high bandwidth transport to support operators in the delivery of mixed broadband services and realisation of service grooming goals. Its optical-layer and electrical-layer ASON significantly increase reliability in transporting services across different granularities and contribute to the reduction of operating expenditure. In addition, the OSN 8800 solution is future-proof, and is capable of 40G and 100G transmissions.

"The significantly-enhanced OSN 8800 enables the efficient and reliable transmission of broadband services, while allowing operators the flexibility to develop and groom new cutting-edge services,” said Mr. Christian Chua, President of Huawei’s Transport Network Product Line. “By providing customers with a suite of OTN solutions that effectively address and overcome challenges such as the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth, we hope to offer them the peace of mind to pursue the opportunities presented by the fast-growing field of optical networking and achieve sustainable business results.”
