PARIS -– Ekinops, a leading provider of optical transport and DWDM solutions, and Agarik, a company specializing in hosting and managing critical web infrastructures and also a network operator, have teamed up to open a very long-haul DWDM 10 Gbps network, linking Agarik’s datacenter in the Paris area to Bull’s data center in Pays de Loire.

In operation since January 14, 2008, this optical transport link spans more than 400 kilometers (250 miles). Leveraging the strong innovative bend of both Ekinops and Agarik, it will allow the customers of Agarik and Bull hosting and managing services to benefit from the latest network infrastructure technologies.

Ekinops and Agarik have teamed up to transport multi GbE (Gigabit Ethernet) and Fibre Channel streams over one of the longest distances ever spanned by a DWDM terrestrial link in France. Ekinops, French telecom equipment manufacturer and recognized expert in designing metro and long-haul optical networks, has provided Agarik with an unprecedented solution which will ultimately double the capacities of the optical signal, while keeping costs down.

Outlining the reasons why Agarik chose the Ekinops 360 solution, Laurent SEROR, Chief Operating Officer and founder of Agarik explains: “For us, the Ekinops 360 platform meant a real technological breakthrough in optical transport, and boosted the average capacities of terrestrial networks. Ekinops was the only optical equipment manufacturer capable of providing us with a cost-saving solution which significantly reduces the number of signal regeneration points, while keeping down both capital and operational expenditures.”

“Once again, Ekinops’ highly innovative and performing technologies enabled us to meet the needs of our customers for solutions suited to the tight operational constraints they face while building their long-haul networks,” adds Sébastien Bernard, Sales Director Northern Europe at Ekinops.
