New technology to extend reach of wireless networks
June 19, 2012
LOUISVILLE, Colo. -- Zayo Group is pleased to announce the formation of a dedicated team focused on Small Cell and Fiber to the Tower (FTT) initiatives. The team will be reporting to Matt Erickson, President of Zayo Fiber Solutions. Small Cells, which are smaller antennas that attach to lamp posts, buildings and other aspects of the urban landscape, are utilized to enhance the mobile network reach for wireless providers.
Small Cell deployments require extensive fiber footprints to cost-effectively provide the infrastructure layer. Zayo currently manages fiber in more than 50 metro markets, and with the pending acquisition of AboveNet will enable other tier 1 markets such as New York, San Francisco and Houston. Already, Zayo provides the underlying infrastructure for 100 Small Cell locations in three metropolitan markets.
Zayo has appointed David Dunn, an experienced infrastructure executive, to lead the efforts. Mr. Dunn will lead the team committed to making Zayo's fiber footprint available for Small Cell deployment and bring Zayo's Small Cell offering to market.
