WTD Obtains 40-Gig patents
WTD obtains two national patents for Its 40-Gbit/s optical transceiver module

WUHAN, China -- As one of the major projects in China's 11th Five-Year Development Program, 40Gb/s optical transceiver module is a high-side key photoelectronic device in the field of optical communications and a commanding point of optical module products. WTD, an affiliated company to Wuhan Research Institute of Post and Telecommunications, has been one of the earliest companies that are specialized in the research in and development of photoelectronic devices and modules and one of the biggest manufacturers and suppliers of photoelectronic devices in China. Supported by the national 863 Program, WTD accumulated valuable experience of developing high-rate modules and fostered a group of high-level R/D specialists through the development of 2.5Gb/s and 10Gb/s modules, laying the foundation for the development of 40Gb/s optical transceiver.
These specialists have released the 40Gb/s optical transceiver product as required in the state project plan on the basis of design, optimization and technical innovation, satisfactorily fulfilling the task. Out of this development, WTD has obtained two national patents of practical and novel nature and applied for one international patent of invention. Adopting multisource international protocol standards, the performance indexes of the product have reached the relevant international standard specifications, reaching the leading level in China and the world advanced level of the same kind. All the key technologies of the products are developed independently and WTD has its own complete proprietary IPR. There are revealed in the product multiple technological innovations, mainly including:
1. Selecting modular and highly integrated components and devices, realizing the high-rate connections of 40Gb/s input and output, ensuring the transmission quality and integration of the high-rate signals and enhancing its resistance to EMI;
2. Adopting dispersed layout of the functional elements in the module circuit design, minimizing the crosstalk within the circuit while improving the installation flexibility;
3. Adopting advanced and effective power source separation measures in the internal source design for the module, avoiding crosstalk between the sources and in respect of heat radiation, the tube shell structure is so designed as to ensure close contact of large power dissipation components with the shell, resulting in the optimum cooling effect.
4. As WTD has owned important patented technologies and complete IPR for its 40Gb/s optical transceiver, its successful development will forcefully keep down the prices of the imported products of the same kind, reduce the costs of China's communication system and equipment, vigorously push forward the development and commercial applications of 40Gb/s optical communication equipment in China, enhance the market competitiveness of the home-made high-rate communication equipment and create good economic and social benefits.
