MUNICH -- Siemens IC Networks has announced another world record, carrying live traffic over almost 1000 km over anon-regenerated 160 channel DWDM (Dense Wavelength DivisionMultiplexing) link. This link forms part of China Unicom’s15.000 km long high-speed national transmission backbonenetwork. By reducing regeneration stations, China Unicom cansave both investment and running cost for networkoperations. Additionally, the operator can quickly and costefficiently extend channels, by equipping only theend-points of the link without the need to changeregenerator stations.China Unicom comments: “The use of Siemens´ TransXpressInfinity platform enables us to provide up to 20 millionsimultaneous telephone calls in ISDN quality on one pair offiber, and increases by 640 times the Internet's backbonespeed and capacity to carry data, video and voice services.”China Unicom had awarded the contract to build its opticalnational transmission backbone network to Siemens lastNovember. The network covers 19 of China’s total 31provinces in most of the country’s fast developing areas.Due to the use of state of the art technology wrapped inplug and play components, Siemens managed to put this sizeof network with 182 sites into operation within 3 months.Thereby included is the instruction and training on the jobof the local implementation team. IC Networks thus provedonce again it is a leader in optical networking, part of itscomplete solutions for the infrastructure of the NextGeneration Network.Siemens Information and Communications Networks Inc.China Unicom Ltd.
