OTTAWA -- Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSE:NT.) today introduced its LC25 series transmitters for general availability. These directly modulated, metro DWDM lasers are the industry's longest reach, lowest cost-per-kilometer optical transmitters across both the C and L bands. The series provides unrivaled capability to extend the reach of metro optical networks to regional metro distances up to 360 kilometers when paired with a laser driver such as Nortel Networks NTMM94AB Directly Modulated Laser Diode Driver. This single component alternative is a lower cost, smaller package than electro-absorption(EA) based offerings traditionally used. The series is aimed at both metro and long haul optical network providers looking to deploy cost-competitive transmission solutions. Depending on individual provider needs, the LC25 series has three variations, providing systems designers with greater flexibility in matching the component to specific performance requirements including output power, tunability, and increased wavelength stability. "By combining longest reach with lowest cost, the LC25 laser series sets a powerful performance standard for directly modulated metro and transport applications up to 360km," said Patrick Walsh, vice president, Product Line Management, Optical Components, Nortel Networks. "By offering components with increased wavelength stability and tunability, Nortel Networks ensures that it continues to cater for the varying needs of its optical systems customers." Nortel Networks is scheduled to demonstrate LC25EW and LC25ET at Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) 2002, March 19-21 at the Anaheim Convention Center (booth #3510), Anaheim, Calif.Nortel Networks Corp.
