DWDM metro drives 18% growth in optical transport market, according to Dell'Oro Group

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, today announced that the total optical transport equipment market grew 18 percent over the year ago period with the most significant growth occurring in the DWDM Metro segment. DWDM Metro revenue grew 56 percent compared to the year ago period and four percent sequentially, with 10 Gbps port shipments seeing exceptional growth at 30 percent sequentially.

"Telecom service providers have stepped up deployments of DWDM Metro," said Jimmy Yu, Senior Analyst for Optical Transport research at Dell'Oro Group. "Until recently, DWDM Metro growth was driven by enterprises' need for data recovery--now we're seeing growth driven by telecom service providers' need for capacity. We believe that service providers are installing DWDM Metro equipment ahead of perceived bandwidth demand on their metro network."
