SEOUL -- Hana Bank (www.hanabank.co.kr), one of Korea's three largest banks, has selected an Optical Ethernet networking solution from Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT) (TSX:NT) to enhance customer service, and to power next generation, Internet-based financial services. Estimated to be worth approximately US$1 million, this solution is being supplied through Nortel Networks local distributor NetCom Systems, Inc. Nortel Networks Optical Ethernet solution will connect Hana Bank's corporate headquarters, customer service centers, disaster recovery center, and some of its largest branches to Korea Telecom's dense-wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical backbone. Hana Bank will lease dark fiber and Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5200 and 3500 Multiservice Platforms from Korea Telecom and link them to an already-installed Nortel Networks Passport 8600 Routing Switch. "We selected this Optical Ethernet solution from Nortel Networks because of its proven ability to rapidly and securely process large amounts of data, and to accommodate high-end applications such as multimedia," said Ho Kyung Kang, manager, Operation and Planning, Hana Bank. "This new network will allow us to serve our customers better, and to create a flexible, reliable and 'future-proof' platform for introduction of new, online banking services." Nortel Networks Corp.
