HAYWARD, Calif. -- Glimmerglass Networks, the leading supplier of intelligent optical layer management solutions, today announced the release of new software for the setup, management and monitoring of its Intelligent Optical Systems. Available immediately, software Release 7.0 supports Simple Network Management Protocol Version 3 (SNMPv3), a critical standards-based interoperable protocol for network management. SNMPv3 provides secure access by a combination of authenticating and encrypting packets over the network. Networks that are standardized on SNMP for management can benefit from Release 7.0 features immediately.

"The need to manage optical signals and the optical layer with secure network infrastructure has never been greater than in today's complex global environment," said Robert Lundy, CEO of Glimmerglass Networks. "We are pleased to release enhanced software that supports the latest industry standards for improved network security while at the same time delivering an even easier-to-use, more scalable software suite for managing optical signals and networks. Glimmerglass Networks software development is laser focused on improving efficiency, reducing costs and enabling our customers to reliably manage a growing number of our intelligent optical systems."

Release 7.0 includes the following features:

  • SNMPv3, backward compatible with SNMPv2c and SNMPv1 - adds authentication, encryption, and access control over a standardized management interface

  • SNMP Sets/Gets/Traps - enables customers to fully provision, operate, and maintain Glimmerglass Networks Intelligent Optical Systems through SNMP

  • Network Time Protocol support (NTPv4) - synchronizes system clock with authoritative time source
