RICHARDSON, Texas -- A passive optical add/drop multiplexing unit that takes dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems beyond mere point-to-point systems was introduced today by Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. The device allows carriers to insert and extract channels to make their DWDM systems more flexible and effective. The FLASHWAVE Metro OADM wavelength filter module from Fujitsu supports two or eight DWDM frequencies -- one or four channels -- and gives service providers valuable access to the midpoint of the network.

"Our Metro OADM system gives service providers a cost-effective solution to networks that are strained for bandwidth," said Ron Martin, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Fujitsu Network Communications. "As they turn to DWDM systems to pump up their capacity on existing fiber, this solution offers them great flexibility in how they route their channels."
