SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- FPL FiberNet has selected Infinera for its regional optical network in Florida. The Infinera DTN will bring the benefits of Digital Optical Networking to the fast-growing Florida market, a key connection point between the North American market and the Caribbean and Latin American markets.

FPL FiberNet, a subsidiary of FPL Group (NYSE: FPL), delivers broadband services to the major IXCs, wireless carriers, international telecom companies, ISPs and large enterprises. With more than 2,500 route miles of high count fiber deployed throughout Florida, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville, with connectivity to central offices, customer POPs, carrier hotels, including NAP of the Americas, and all international cable landing stations in South Florida, FiberNet is the transport provider of choice in Florida.

FPL FiberNet chose Infinera because the Infinera Digital Optical Networking system provides a scalable solution with the capability to add services and wavelengths quickly and economically. The Infinera solution is designed to provide significant operational advantages. With its unique architecture based on photonic integration, the Infinera system is designed to be easy to install and provision without requiring a heavy investment in highly-skilled engineering staff.

"The Infinera platform will provide FPL FiberNet with the ability to enhance service delivery to our customers," said FPL FiberNet Director of Network Engineering and Operations Peter Del Frate. “With today’s increasing demand for bandwidth, Infinera provided the ideal solution to meet our customers needs."
