SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- Cierra Photonics, Inc.today announced the introduction of its terra-Q(R) 50G-5, a 50 GHz, five-cavity optical filter chip capable of 50 GHz DWDM channel spacing, a level of performance previously thought to be obtainable only through higher-cost technologies. Cierra's terra-Q 50G-5 was developed using AED II, a major advancementof the company's proprietary Advanced Energetic Deposition (AED) process for wafer scale integration of fiber optic components. AED II is a faster,lower- cost process that produces the high yield necessary for wafer-scale integration. AED II also features industry-leading optical performance. "The key point is that the terra-Q 50G-5 can impact the cost ofnetwork performance by driving down cost per wavelength," Cierra Chairman and CEO Glenn Yamamoto said. "It provides a level of cost effectiveness and performance not available through competing technologies such as Bragg gratings or arrayed waveguides. The terra-Q 50G-5 will be of particular interest to component suppliers as well as system providers interested in fixed optical add and drop functionality."Cierra Photonics Inc.
