Optical market recovery continues in all regions but EMEA

BOSTON -- Market research firm Infonetics Research (www.twitter.com/infonetics) today released excerpts from its second quarter 2010 (2Q10) Optical Network Hardware vendor market share report.
ANALYST NOTE
"Optical network equipment spending was up in North America, Asia Pacific and Central and Latin America in the second quarter. The recovery in North America rolled on due mainly to strong growth from Infinera, Fujitsu and ADVA from a broad base of customers. Meanwhile, optical spending in the EMEA region was roughly flat quarter-over-quarter and the outlook for 2010 remains mixed," notes Andrew Schmitt, Infonetics Research's directing analyst for optical.
OPTICAL MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
Quarter-over-quarter, from 1Q10 to 2Q10, the worldwide optical network hardware market increased 2.9% to $3.05 billion
The Asia Pacific optical network hardware market posted strong sequential growth of 8.1% in 2Q10, as Chinese carriers continued to spend aggressively on optical equipment
Huawei extended its market share lead over Alcatel-Lucent in the worldwide optical network hardware market based on gains in both Asia Pacific and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa)
Fujitsu and Tellabs grew revenue in the packet-optical transport system (P-OTS) market segment based on continued shipments to Verizon and other customers
