ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Optical Crossing, a manufacturer of state-of-the-art optical communication systems and components, today announced its entry into the fiber-optic components market with the introduction of its 1550 nm semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) at the OFC Conference 2001 (Booth# 1002).

The fiber-pigtailed modules incorporate a proprietary InGaAsP-based active region to provide high gain, high saturation output power, and low polarization dependence in the 1550 nm wavelength range. State-of-the-art fabrication and packaging techniques are used to reduce reflectivity and optimize coupling efficiency which results in reduced noise figures.

Martin Young, Manager of Optoelectronic Products for Optical Crossing commented: "Our compact, polarization-insensitive device offers high gain and high saturation output powers. This broad-bandwidth device is not only a low-cost alternative to EDFAs for optical amplification, but is also a building block for next-generation switching and optical time-division multiplexing (OTDM) systems."
