OTTAWA -- Nakina Systems Inc. ("Nakina"), a provider of network management solutions to large network operators worldwide, today announced that Marco Pagani has been appointed the company's new President & CEO. In a planned transition, Mr. Pagani will be replacing David Vicary, a co-founder of Nakina who had previously announced his intent to relinquish the post before year-end.

Mr. Pagani's appointment follows two years of involvement with Nakina, first as an executive consultant to the Board of Directors and, since April 2006, as Chairman of the Board. In addition to having recently served as Chairman of a number of telecom technology companies, including Nimcat Networks (acquired by Avaya in 2005), Mr. Pagani enjoyed a highly successful 20-year career at Nortel Networks that included positions as President of Optical Ethernet and Storage Solutions, President of the Metro Optical Division, President of Core Networks, and General Manager of Carrier Data Networks.

"Nakina is aggressively defining a new way for telecom service providers to streamline and manage their networks - the very heart of their businesses," stated Mr. Pagani. "Four years ago many analysts thought we were taking on an impossible task. Today, our system architecture and our traction with some of the largest service providers, combined with industry activity like Cisco's acquisition of Sheer Networks and Nokia's entry into the multi-vendor management space, all point to a strategic transformation in the industry that is being led by companies like Nakina."

In accepting the lead role, Mr. Pagani also praised the accomplishments of his predecessor, Mr. Vicary. "Dave's vision in the early days, coupled with his relentless determination, is what has driven the company to its current heights. The organization owes him a debt of gratitude, and I'm pleased that we'll be enjoying his continued contributions as a member of the board."
