QUEBEC CITY -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) announced today the introduction of the EXD-350, a new compact handheld test set that consolidates ADSL1/2/2+ services testing and copper qualification in a low-cost dedicated instrument. The EXD-350 Advanced ADSL2+ Test Set addresses the need to cost-effectively install ADSL services, verify loop quality and validate Internet connectivity with an easy-to-use test set.

The EXD-350 is used to install and troubleshoot digital subscriber line (DSL) circuits that are provisioned to carry triple-play services (video, voice and data) over high-speed access networks. This rugged test solution acts as a golden modem for confirming connection rates as well as other key metrics provided by ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+. It also has the ability to quickly verify Internet connectivity and identify impairments within the local loop that may affect the performance of the DSL service.

As large-scale deployments of DSL are becoming a reality among network service providers to address emerging broadband triple-play applications, the need for a rapid-service installation has soared. The EXD-350 has been optimized for quick and easy installation of ADSL services and has been purpose-built for installation technicians who do not require a higher-end, multi-service test solution.

In addition to testing upstream and downstream data rates and other important parameters of a DSL circuit, the EXD-350 can perform ATM-layer testing and PING testing to confirm Internet connectivity. A standard Auto-Test feature allows the user to quickly qualify the integrity of the copper loop. All measurements can be carried out with a single-button press which allows for very rapid testing inside a user-friendly, intuitive solution.

“With the addition of the new EXD-350 Advanced ADSL2+ Test Set to its existing offering, EXFO now offers the most comprehensive and flexible xDSL product portfolio on the market today,” said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO’s Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing. “This new product is further strengthening our ability to offer the right tools for the required testing applications throughout all phases of a DSL service deployment and is positioning EXFO as the supplier of choice in the fast-growing telco access market.”
