BEDFORD, Mass. -- Empirix Inc., the leading provider of testing and monitoring solutions for VoIP, contact center and Web technologies, announced today that Cognitronics Corporation (Amex: CGN) has purchased the Empirix Hammer test solution to provide full test coverage for its products throughout their lifecycle, from R&D through installation and maintenance. Cognitronics is a leading supplier of media server solutions to the telecommunications industry.

"In order to take our testing capabilities to the next level, we wanted a single partner that could encompass all testing needs throughout our organization - from R&D through system test, manufacturing test, field test and troubleshooting," said Manny Zizzo, Vice President of Operations for Cognitronics. "It was also important that the vendor be able to handle our testing requirements today and in the future. Empirix has the broadest set of test capabilities, a solid platform on which to build, and the deepest experience in the industry, so it was an easy choice."

The Hammer test solution that Cognitronics purchased includes Hammer FX for generating both IP and TDM test calls; Hammer DEX for network device emulation; and Hammer Call Analyzer for analyzing and troubleshooting test calls and networks. Together, they enable Cognitronics to perform feature and performance tests of Cognitronics products in isolation.

According to Gordon Eddy, Director of Product Management at Empirix, the company's device emulation capabilities in particular gave Empirix a tremendous edge in winning Cognitronics' business. "Cognitronics needed a complete test solution, and Empirix was uniquely suited to provide it," said Eddy, "Our ability to emulate multiple network devices with Hammer DEX was crucial. As a media server company, Cognitronics needs to test its products with multiple device types in different network configurations. The ability to do that with a single emulator platform eliminates the expense of outfitting a test lab with numerous individual devices and compresses the time required for testing, thereby enabling Cognitronics to get its products to market faster."

Eddy also noted that because media servers are an important element in the emerging IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture, Empirix's experience with IMS testing will benefit Cognitronics. "We are very proud to be working with Cognitronics, and look forward to helping support their innovative work in the media server market," he said.
