Vendor demos synchronous Ethernet collaboration and Y.1731 OAM

WARSAW -- Calnex Solutions and Aviat Networks announced a successful performance test and demonstration of Synchronous Ethernet (Sync-E). The test was conducted as part of the EANTC Multi-vendor Interoperability test event, which was showcased at the recent Carrier Ethernet World Congress.
Sync-E is a critical technology that allows Mobile Network operators to deploy much-needed bandwidth in their backhaul networks using Ethernet while maintaining the synchronisation required by mobile base-stations to function. Ethernet microwave systems serve a vital purpose in these backhaul networks and as such must be tested and proven to industry-wide performance standards.
The Calnex Paragon allows equipment manufacturers and operators to test the performance of Sync-E to the ITU-T G.8262 performance standards. Aviat Networks recently added enhanced Ethernet switching capability to its Eclipse Packet Node family of products and these were tested and proven to operate within the rigorous performance limits.
“Aviat Networks successfully completed the testing of their latest Eclipse solutions alongside 23 other vendors to demonstrate the viability of Ethernet microwave and SyncE for 3G and LTE mobile backhaul applications. The Calnex Paragon allowed us to test and prove the performance of the Aviat systems and found the synchronization quality was within limits of the G.823 SSU mask for one hour,” said Carsten Rossenhövel, Managing Director at EANTC.

WARSAW -- Omnitron Systems and Calnex Solutions announced a successful interoperability test of the Y.1731 Ethernet OAM with multiple Ethernet platforms at the EANTC Interoperability Test, which was showcased at the recent Carrier Ethernet World Congress.
The ITU-T Y.1731 protocol is an important requirement for service providers to deliver carrier-grade services over Ethernet networks by providing advanced Fault Management and Performance Monitoring capabilities. The Calnex Paragon allows equipment manufacturers and service providers to rapidly prove technologies like ITU-T Y.1731 by providing specific test features for those technologies.
Omnitron tested the iConverter GM3 Network Interface Device that enables the delivery of MEF-certified Ethernet services. The iConverter GM3 implements Service OAM according to the ITU-T Y.1731 standard, and provides intelligent demarcation at the customer premises enabling end-to-end service reliability and SLA assurance across multiple carrier networks.
Carsten Rossenhoevel, Managing Director at EANTC, the lab that conducted the Multi-Vendor interoperability test, said “We ran a number of tests to validate Y.1731 interoperability between multiple vendors. The Calnex Paragon enabled us to run tests comprehensively and quickly. The extensive and clear management reporting from the Omnitron Systems equipment also allowed us to verify correct operation rapidly.”
Details of the tests and the platforms are in the Multi-Vendor Interoperability Test White Paper, which can be downloaded at www.eantc.com/cewc2010.
