Accedian Networks introduces multicast service testing
September 3, 2008
MONTREAL -- Accedian Networks ™, a leading provider of Packet Performance Assurance ™ solutions for telecom, cable and wireless communications providers, announced today multicast service testing to assure the Quality of Service (QoS) of real-time, packet-based broadcast and communications applications. The multicast Performance Assurance Agent (PAA™) for EtherNID™ & MetroNID™ demarcation units precisely measures packet transmission performance and server responsiveness to monitor large-scale IPTV, VoIP conferencing, telepresence and mobile TV media streaming applications.
Accedian Networks’ proven PAA technology is widely used by leading service providers to monitor demanding business services and 3G & 4G (WiMAX / LTE) wireless backhaul applications. The solution continuously measures microsecond-resolution one-way delay and jitter, frame loss and continuity for point-to-point, hub-and-spoke and full mesh services. The new multicast PAA extends these capabilities to monitor broadcast-style services over wireless and wireline networks, with the ability to simultaneously test from the multicast source (head-end) to each cell site or subscribed enterprise location independently.
In addition to monitoring unidirectional streaming performance, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) support provides measurements to help validate video channel change time and conferencing join / leave delay. Accedian Networks’ EchoVault™ SLA EMS platform centralizes results from thousands of endpoints to provide per-second QoS reporting, graphing, fault management and operational support system (OSS) integration in real-time. With a granularity that is hundreds of times more detailed than SNMP-based monitoring systems, the EchoVault SLA EMS enables the carrier-grade five-nines (99.999%) availability required for real-time services.
“Accedian Networks’ innovative Packet Performance Assurance™ solutions have enabled service providers to establish high-performance Ethernet & IP services backed by demanding Service Level Agreements. These providers are now leveraging their assured networks to deliver value-added, real-time applications including telepresence, VoIP conferencing and multicast video distribution”, said Patrick Ostiguy, Accedian Networks’ founding President & CEO. “The new multicast PAA reflects our longstanding commitment to helping our customers deliver and maintain best-in-class QoS as they scale into new markets and applications.”
