ORLANDO -- Nokia Siemens Networks is launching its new FlexiPacket Microwave platform for the North America market. The platform includes programmable software to provide operations for both hybrid and full packet traffic mode. A common all-outdoor microwave radio allows operators to migrate various different links independently with a capacity of up to 2Gbps.

The platform will be embedded in Nokia Siemens Networks' HSPA+ display at the show, demonstrating flat mobile backhaul in an end-to-end scenario. The platform's software features make capacity upgrades simple and flexible, allowing operators to scale up according to their need.

"This is the first time, Nokia Siemens Networks is launching its own, in-house developed, licensed microwave solution for the North American market. After a successful launch of FlexiPacket Microwave platform at Mobile World Congress 2011, we are excited to bring its unique characteristics to our customers in America," said Pathmal Gunawardana, head of transport networks in North America, Nokia Siemens Networks.

"With microwave transport networks moving toward high-capacity all-IP, operators want simplicity in deployment, wide range of scalability and the convenience of migrating parts of the network, rather than the whole network in one go. Our new FlexiPacket Microwave platform has been designed to offer operators functionality and flexibility as well as compliance with microwave regulations in North America," added Gunawardana.

Since the platform is customized to meet diverse customer needs and is modeled on a pay-as-you-grow approach, it can help optimize the operator's total cost of ownership along with reducing risks that result from any technology migration. In addition, its zero footprint, low-power consumption design and simple, common set of components, translates into lower site, installation and commissioning costs coupled with faster rollout and lower maintenance overhead.

Nokia Siemens Networks' FlexiPacket Microwave provides unique capabilities for Single RAN (radio access network) evolution, offering IP migration capabilities for all radio technologies optimized for legacy base stations in co-locations as well as new full-IP Single RAN solutions.
