ONWAVE OC192 Sonet/SDH ADM with integrated STS1 switching, full overhead transparency, and optional DWDM or standard 1310nm optics

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- ONI Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: ONIS), a leading provider of optical telecommunications systems for metropolitan and regional markets, today announced its newest product addition to the ONWAVETM family of Multiplexers-the new ONWAVE OC-192 SONET/SDH Add/Drop Multiplexer (ADM) with integrated STS-1 switching, full overhead transparency and optional DWDM or standard 1310 nm optics. Integrating the OC-192 ADM into ONI's optical solutions will allow service providers to operate more profitably by significantly lowering the cost per OC-48 SONET/SDH service channel, which can be delivered to multiple customers. The new ONWAVE OC-192 ADM leverages ONI's experience in both OC-192 optical transport and integrated SONET/SDH and Data Multiplexer designs, offering STS-1 switching and grooming functionality within a circuit pack to eliminate the need for separate stand-alone 10 Gbps Multiplexer and ADM equipment. In two other important aspects of carrier cost savings, space and power consumption, the ONWAVE OC-192 ADM will more than double the OC-48 density of ONI's ONLINETM transport platforms and significantly reduces system power consumption. "The new OC-192 ADM is a breakthrough, which will enable our customers to offer OC-48 services at a significant discount. It will be able to seamlessly deliver OC-48 traffic from an OC-192 POP to multiple locations in the metro, serving as a cross-connect between access, metro and long-haul networks. All of these benefits provide service providers a superior alternative to external grooming and switching equipment, displacing expensive and bulky OC-192 ADM solutions offered in today's market," said Rusty Cumpston, executive vice president and chief operating officer at ONI Systems.ONI Systems Inc.
