WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. -- Optical Communication Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCPI), a manufacturer of fiber optic subsystems and modules for metropolitan area, local area and storage area networks, today announced the availability of its OC-48/STM-16 Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) small form pluggable (SFP) transceiver with integrated digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) to support high-density, long distance 80km metropolitan area networking (MAN) applications.

"We have an excellent low power design with a typical power consumption of 1watt that is addressing the thermal management concerns of our customers," said Kirk Bovill, director of marketing. "We are well positioned to support the growing WDM-based metro market with our MSA-compliant DWDM SFP package."

OCP TRPW48L2 DWDM product line is compliant with the G.692 ITU-T standard, offering 44 wavelengths on 100GHz C-Band spacing with an optical link budget of 26dB. The DFB lasers used in these SFP transceivers feature an integrated optical isolator for stable transmitter operation under the varying back-reflection conditions that exist in installed cable plants.

The modules are designed for multi-rate applications, supporting data rates ranging from 2.67Gb/s down to 125Mb/s. The DDM functionality adheres to the SFP DWDM MSA, enabling the end-user to monitor key areas in the performance of the SFP transceiver: internal temperature, DC supply voltage, transmitter bias current, transmitter output power, receive optical signal level, laser wavelength and TEC current. Integrated DDM functionality also incorporates warnings and alarms to monitor these parameters.

In addition to DWDM SFP transceivers, OCP offers a full portfolio of single wavelength and CWDM SFP solutions to address OC-3, OC-12 and OC-48 SONET/SDH applications as well as Gigabit Ethernet applications with transmission distances ranging from 220m to 120km.

The DWDM SFP transceivers are expected to be in production in late 2005. Pricing and shipping information is available by contacting OCP sales at 818-251-7100 or via e-mail at [email protected].

OCP's OC-48/STM-16 DWDM SFP multi-rate transceivers will be on display at the 31st European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC 2005) on September 25-29, 2005 at the Scottish Exhibit Center in Glasgow, Scotland. Please visit OCP's booth #122 for more information.
