O2, 3 Merge Video Services
The new "mobile video community," as it's called, is a combination of O2's LookAtMe! and 3's SeeMeTV services, in which users uploaded videos captured on mobile phones and were paid a share of the download price whenever anyone downloaded their videos. The union of these two services is made possible, or at least easier, by the fact that Yospace Holdings Ltd. developed both platforms for O2 and 3.
So far, users have paid for 32 million video downloads from SeeMeTV and LookAtMe! And the operators have paid out a combined total of more than £800,000 (US$1.6 million) to users who have submitted more than 60,000 video clips. The services currently generate 28 million mobile page impressions per month.
An O2 spokesman says the operators would welcome other U.K. operators joining EyeVibe.
