LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Nufern, an independent provider ofapplication-specific optical fiber, has released its erbium-doped C-band fiber, EDFC-980-HP (high-performance). Designed for use in single or multi-stage amplifiers and ASE sources, Nufern's EDFC-980-HP can be powered with 980 nm or 1480 nm pumps."Through a unique solution-doping technology we are able to deliver erbiumfibers with highly consistent and reproducible spectroscopy," said Nufern'sCTO, Dr. Adrian Carter. "Nufern's extensive characterization labs andstatistical process control plant provide fiber with the kind of detailedcharacterization data and tight optical and mechanical tolerances needed byamplifier manufacturers. And as an independent manufacturer, customers canbe assured of a secure supply of a premier fiber from a stable,non-competing source."Nufern's EDFC-980-HP has a peak absorption near 1530 nm of 6.0 ñ 1.0dB/meter, a cut-off wavelength of 920 ñ 50 nm, and a typical numericalaperture of 0.23. This fiber has a core-clad concentricity error of < 0.3 æmto ensure low splice loss and comes with a standard 200 kpsi proof strengthfor high reliability. Each lot of Nufern's erbium-doped fiber is furnishedwith extensive lot specific characterization data.In a separate release:Nufern, an independent provider of application-specific optical fiber, has released polarization maintaining fibers in 980 nm and 1550 nm operating wavelengths. Providing identical optical performance as the current standard with tighter mechanical tolerances and core/clad concentricity, Nufern PM980-HP and PM1550-HP are proof-tested at = 200 kpsi and available in standard or specialty lengths."As with our PM14XX fiber, we've captured all the optical performance characteristics PM fiber is known for while improving geometrical and optical tolerances," said Nufern Vice President of Operations, Dr. Kanishka Tankala. Designed for use in fibertails, PM couplers and multiplexers, Nufern PM980-HP and PM1550-HP provide a low attenuation of ¡Ü 0.5 dB/km, and normalized crosstalk between axes of ¡Ü -30 dB/100 meters and ¡Ü -40 dB/4 meters. Beat length is ¡Ü 3.3 mm at 980 nm and ¡Ü 5.0 mm at 1550 nm. As with all Nufern products, Nufern polarization maintaining fibers provide high lot-to-lot uniformity and are tested to Telcordia standards. In a separate release:Nufern, an independent provider of application-specific optical fiber, has expanded its line of metalized optical fibers with the addition of polarization maintaining (PM) fibertails and enhanced sub-assembly capabilities. Available in Nufern PM14XX-HP, Nufern PM1550-HP, or customer supplied PM fibers, Nufern PM Fibertails are designed for use in components such as, lithium niobate modulators, laser diodes, and diode stabilizers. Nufern's proprietary electroless nickel and gold fiber plating process helps preserve the birefringence of the PM fiber that results in optimum performance (minimum crosstalk: <-36 dB, typical crosstalk: <-43 dB). Nufern sub-assembly capabilities for metalized optical fibers include; angle, wedge, and cone, end-shaping; front and rear ferruling; anti-reflective coatings; SC and FC standard connectors and PC, UPC, APC polishes. Nufern sub-assemblies are available stand-alone or in combination for more complex units. "The statistical process controls we have in place allow us to provide better performing products throughout - from fiber draw, to plating, to sub-assembly," said Nufern Vice President of Operations, Dr. Kanishka Tankala. "Our metalized fibers represent the kind of highly-engineered, repeatable, tight specification, application-specific products our customers require."Nufern
