NTT Pumps Up Browser Partner
NTT DoCoMo Inc. (NYSE: DCM) has pumped an additional ¥1.64 billion (US$13.63 million) into Access Co. Ltd., a company which develops microbrowsers and other software for the giant Japanese carrier.
The investment will increase DoCoMo's stake in the software company to 9.61 percent. Previously DoCoMo held a 2 percent stake in the company.
Access designed the browser for DoCoMo's 3G handsets, although it also provides other set-top software to the company and makes products for other operators. Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV) is the software vendor's major rival in the wireless browser market.
