Norwegians Still Bidding

9:25 AM -- Operators are still bidding in the Norwegian 2.6 GHz mobile broadband spectrum auction. After six days of bidding, the aggregate price of the spectrum is now $39 million. (See Norway Nets $13.5M, Europe Makes Way for WiMax, and Telenor Launches WiMax.)

Whatever the Norwegians do with this spectrum -- whether it's for WiMax or cellular 3G services -- it won't necessarily be a blueprint for the bigger European markets like Germany, France, Italy, and the U.K. But this is Europe's first auction of the 2.6 GHz spectrum and interesting because of its technologically neutral approach.
