OTTAWA -- Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT) (TSE:NT.) today announced general availability of its ML-20 tunable laser, the industry's first Telcordia-qualified widely tunable laser product. Qualification and general availability of the ML-20 are significant achievements, demonstrating Nortel Networks leadership position in innovation and delivery of next generation optical networks. "Achieving Telcordia qualification with a generally available, widely tunable laser serves to reassure carriers of the reliability of this technology," said Vladimir Kozlov, senior analyst, RHK. "The ML-20 makes it possible to remotely provision, route and manage individual wavelengths in order to allocate bandwidth to specific routes in line with demand, and may motivate system equipment providers to offer tunability as an option in current systems. Nortel Networks announcement confirms carrier expectations that dynamically reconfigurable systems will indeed become a reality." Demonstrating Nortel Networks industry leadership position in tunable laser production readiness and manufacturing scalability, the ML-20 tunable laser features a wide tuning range covering the C and L bands, and offers an integrated locker capable of addressing channel spacing of 25 GHz or less.
