TORONTO -- Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT) (TSX:NT) today announced plans that will see changes to its sales organization as Gary Donahee, president, Americas, proceeds to retirement in the Spring of 2003, following a 28-year career in the company. "With Gary proceeding to retirement, we have put in place a plan to ensure a smooth transition of his leadership and account responsibilities," said Frank Dunn, president and chief executive officer, Nortel Networks. "This transition plan is in keeping with our ongoing commitment to work closely with our customers in the key markets of North America and the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) to ensure changes in the Americas sales organization evolve without any disruptions." Under the Americas sales organization transition plan that Donahee will lead, his Americas sales responsibilities will evolve as follows:

  • Pascal Debon, president, Wireless Networks, will assume leadership accountability for the North American wireless account teams, which will remain under the day-to-day direction of Peter MacKinnon, Wireless Networks Sales. MacKinnon will report to Debon.

  • Sue Spradley, president, Wireline Networks, will assume leadership responsibility for the North American Wireline account teams, which will be organized under Martha Bejar and Randy Dodd. Bejar will provide leadership to the traditional ILEC accounts and Dodd will lead the CLEC, IXC, Independent and Regional accounts. Dodd and Bejar will report to Spradley and will also be accountable to Brian McFadden for Optical Networks sales.

  • Steve Schilling will continue to drive enterprise sales strategy and customer momentum as president, Enterprise Accounts.

  • Additionally, Dion Joannou will be returning from Europe to lead the company's CALA sales organization as president, CALA. Joannou most recently led the Vodafone global account team in Europe. Winston Estridge, currently president, CALA, will retire from the company in 2003. Both Schilling and Joannou will report directly to Frank Dunn.

"We're making these changes to further strengthen the links between our key sales organizations and our business leaders," Dunn said. "By bringing our business teams closer to the customer, we are continuing our efforts to tightly align our sales teams and businesses with our customers' interests. Nortel Networks Corp.
