FRANKFURT, Germany -- German telecommunications provider T-Com, the fixed network division of Deutsche Telekom, has selected Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT) as one of its key suppliers for metro optical network equipment under an agreement announced today. The agreement calls for Nortel Networks to supply T-Com with products from Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5000 Multiservice Platform series. OPTera Metro 5000 is designed to help deliver broadband information services to businesses, and to provide high-capacity telecommunications backbones over distances of up to a few hundred kilometres. The OPTera Metro 5000 series supports a wide range of services -- including storage networking, video, Gigabit Ethernet, and most other broadband network protocols -- through a technique called wavelength division multiplexing (WDM).
