BRACKNELL, U.K. -- NORDX/CDT Inc. (NYSE: CDT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cable Design Technologies (CDT) Corporation, is proud to announce that the Broadband Video Transmission capacity of the IBDN 4800LX System has been independently tested by the ETL SEMKO division of Intertek, and confirmed in the recent publication of an Intertek report.

"Intertek has reviewed the NORDX/CDT Broadband Video over Twisted Pair test protocol and found it to be technically sound", explains James Anastasi, Technical Manager of Global Cabling Products Testing for Intertek. "Based on testing recently conducted by Intertek, it is suggested that the NORDX/CDT protocol be reviewed by Standards Developing Organizations such as TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association) for future standards development," concludes Anastasi.

"The testing witnessed by Intertek has been conducted following the official standards (ASTM D4566-98, TIA/EIA-568-B.2-1, ISO/IEC FDIS 11801:2002 (E) and a testing protocol developed by NORDX/CDT specifically for the broadband video application," confirms Paul Kish, Director, IBDN Systems & Standards at NORDX/CDT. The testing established that a high-end Category 6 cabling system has significant benefits in terms of picture quality, the number of video channels, cabling distances and support for multiple applications. It opens the door to future enhancements in cabling standards for broadband video and for new applications such as 10 Gig that will have a usable bandwidth extending as high as 650 MHz, " adds Kish.

Today, Category 6 cabling is specified with a transmission performance up to 250 MHz compared with Category 5/5e cabling, which is specified to 100 MHz. Category 6 cabling provides at least 10 dB (or ten times) higher Signal-to-Noise Ratio compared to Category 5/5e and as much as 20 dB higher for some systems such as the IBDN 4800LX. A higher Signal-to-Noise Ratio means less susceptibility to transceiver impairments and other environmental effects that can slow down your network. It also means that the cabling system has reserve capacity to support the most demanding applications
