Nokia World: In Pictures
Just days before Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK)'s annual industry event, the company announced that it would replace CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo with Stephen Elop from Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT). And Anssi Vanjoki, a Nokia veteran of 20 years and the executive in charge of the smartphone business, announced his resignation. (See Nokia Dumps CEO, Hires Elop and Nokia's 'Fightback' Man Quits .)
Both developments left many wondering just who would show on stage for the opening keynote speeches at Nokia World.
What resulted was a display of Finnish defiance and determination and some big talk about Nokia's "fightback" to regain a leadership position in the smartphone market. Niklas Savander, executive VP of markets, stood in for Kallasvuo and claimed "Nokia is back"; the outgoing Vanjoki passionately announced three new Symbian 3 smartphones; and incoming CEO Elop made a brief appearance at the end of the event.
