TOKYO -- NEC Corporation and NetCracker Technology have announced that Swisscom AG has successfully completed building the ICT capabilities needed to migrate its major business lines, including fixed, mobile, TV and broadband, to the NetCracker Service Fulfillment solution as part of Swisscom’s ‘All IP Transformation’ program. This will enable Swisscom to utilize always-on provisioning capabilities and accelerate time-to-market for new services.

Further, Swisscom will discuss with NEC and NetCracker how to address the unique challenges associated with transforming Swisscom’s OSS environment to a hybrid virtual-physical model. Through in-depth workshops at NEC headquarters in Tokyo, Swisscom, NEC and NetCracker will work together on establishing future migration plans to a cloud-based architecture.

Swisscom is Switzerland’s leading telecommunications service provider, offering customers throughout the country a full range of sophisticated products and services, including fixed-line and mobile telephony and Internet services, as well as digital television, IT and networking solutions.

“Our focus for the future is on developing the cloud-based services and applications that will drive the next phase of our growth,” said Heinz Herren, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Officer at Swisscom. “NetCracker has supported many of our next-generation initiatives, such as helping us create a unified OSS for our ‘All-IP’ program. With trusted business partners like NEC and NetCracker, we are creating an optimal environment for evaluating the critical technologies necessary to transform our business.”

As part of Swisscom’s next-generation architecture transformation initiative, the three companies would like to continue cooperating on many of the critical technology areas that are necessary for the Swisscom business:

  • Next-generation business and operational support systems (BSS/OSS)

    • Management and orchestration (MANO) of highly automated hybrid service environments

    • Network analysis and visualization capabilities

“As longstanding strategic networking and IT solution partners for Swisscom, NEC and NetCracker look forward to helping Swisscom achieve its transformation goals,” said Frank DeTraglia, Chief Customer Officer at NetCracker. “With an end-to-end portfolio of BSS/OSS and network virtualization solutions, NEC and NetCracker are excited to begin discussions with Swisscom about future collaboration plans for designing, testing and operationalizing cutting-edge OSS services.”

“We believe one of Swisscom’s key strengths is its innovation in bringing new services to market, which will serve them well as they take advantage of ‘All-IP’ and cloud-based business opportunities,” said Shunichiro Tejima, Executive Vice President at NEC Corporation. “NEC, together with NetCracker, will offer the technologies and professional services required to transform Swisscom’s business.”
